Dr Gemma Gate

Gate Psychological Services was established by Dr Gemma Gate, Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist. Prior to working independently, Gemma worked within Mental Health & Learning Disability Services in the NHS for over 10 years. Her former role was leading an NHS Specialist Mental Health Service for Children in Care. Gemma has been an approved provider of post adoption specialist assessment and therapeutic intervention since 2016.

Through her work, Gemma has developed a specialist interest in early adversity and childhood trauma. She is passionate about raising awareness and promoting trauma informed care across all settings.

Within her clinical work, Gemma takes a flexible approach drawing upon a range of psychological models. She is particularly skilled in supporting overwhelmed, stressed parents who may be experiencing blocked care and secondary trauma.

Gemma is trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP Level 2) and Non-Violent Resistance (NVR Advanced level working towards Accreditation). She is skilled in Comprehensive Psychological Assessment including the use of standardised attachment assessment, cognitive assessment and screening for neurodevelopmental difficulties such as FASD, ASD & ADHD.

Gemma provides Clinical Supervision, Teaching and Training. She is keen to support and develop the practice of other professionals and has undertaken additional supervision training accredited by the British Psychological Society.

Assessment & Therapy clinics with Gemma run on a Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Gemma also offers professional supervision and is available for corporate/organisational service contracts.
